With prom season approaching, now is the time to start searching for the perfect prom dress that will make the night seem magical. There are so many options when looking for a formal dress, such as one needed for a prom, that you really have the ability to look and search for affordable prom dresses while still finding something that is very nice and attractive. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress to only wear one evening; there are affordable prom dresses out there!

One place that many people often overlook is consignment shops. Even if you are slightly apprehensive about buying second hand clothes, if you really think about it the dresses that are available for purchase that are suitable for a prom would really have only been worn a few times at most. A good dry cleaning will make a used dress seem brand new, and there are generally big selections for affordable prom dresses at places like these. In general you are able to purchase a special occasion dress for less than half of retail price. Also, there are now stores that have opened that only do consignments for higher end clothing and/or special occasion wear. The possibilities are there, but they can be hit or miss.

Another option when looking for affordable prom dresses is the sale rack at places like David’s Bridal or other bridal boutiques. These types of stores often offer samples of bridesmaid dresses, or even just special occasion dresses, at a fraction of their original cost. In general, these dresses are better made than those found at department stores, so if you can catch a floor sample sale you will get a much better dress for a lower cost. In addition, the customer service at bridal boutiques tends to be top notch, especially in comparison to department stores. If you are looking for a fun day of shopping, definitely try these stores! You never know just what you might find and you’ll be treated like a princess in the process.

You certainly are still able to find discount dresses at department stores, and there usually are an abundance of affordable prom dresses to be found on the sale racks. However, if you are searching for something that is a little out of the ordinary and won’t be seen on any other girl at the prom, then trying out consignment stores and bridal boutiques may be for you.
